Dr. Max von Grafenstein LL.M. is head of the research programme »Governance of Data Driven Innovation« at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG). He is also a lawyer, partner at iRights.Law and runs the legal tech startup INNOVATION AND LAW, which focuses on privacy- and security-by-design solutions, data protection certificates, codes of conduct and binding corporate rules.
Max has worked as a lawyer since 2010 and specialises in internet technology, intellectual property, and media law. His research focuses on the Governance of data driven innovation. In the last four years, he has run the HIIG Startup Law Clinic and has helped more than 100 entrepreneurs to resolve the legal challenges they face as innovators. He is a member of several Big Data research projects funded by the German government and a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
